So he had similar episodes 1 year ago, that went away with hock injections, and it has just started again? or am I not getting this right?
Ask Your Own Horse Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago

we did not inject his hocks just nursed them back with vet wrap furason ant MTG kept it clean and dry he was rode in sept, and Dec in ropings and performed well.we thought the episode one year ago was because that something scared him but we saw him fall a few days later spent the year nursing both hocks and now their worse just horrible chunk of meat gone from left hock..

Ask Your Own Horse Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
this is second wound wound from 1 year ago was 90% healed when this happened
Horse Veterinarian: Dr. M., Board Certified Equine Surgeon replied 8 years ago
OK,
well, have any Xrays been taken lately? as bone infection need to be ruled out.
Second, if that is not the case, a biopsy of the wound need to be taken and sent for histopathology, (a fly larva infection called habronema needs to be ruled out).

As far as the falling down, it could be because of sleep deprivation, but other neurologic diseases might need to be ruled out.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions
