Customer Question

My pastured warm blood has suffered from swelling in his hind legs mainly and somewhat in front but always after being in a stall in the past but now (since 2 days ago) he is pretty swollen and in a large paddock most of the day. Should I be worried? I don't have much time to move him and don't know what to do.

Is he lame?
Ask Your Own Horse Veterinary Question
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
He isn't lame on any particular limb but is hesitant to move forward (at a trot) and looks like he is moving in slow motion.
Horse Veterinarian: Dr. M., Board Certified Equine Surgeon replied 8 years ago
Ok,
It sounds like he has cellulitis (infection of the subcutaneous tissue, that can present in the chronic form without fever).
You should have your vet out for bloodwork, and if the diagnosis is confirmed, treatment will consist in bandaging and antibiotics.
Hope this helps, le t me know if you have any further questions
