On a hot day...

On a hot day and after several stops doing errands the A/C stops working. It has been charged and looked at by my honda dealer but it was a cool day and it did not fail. Is there a heat sensor of some sort in the system that could cause this behavior?

Mechanic's Assistant: Which particular sensor are you asking about? And have any trouble codes been triggered?

I am asking is there such a sensor. There have been no codes

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Honda?

2004 CR-V. This A/C was replaced at the dealer based on recall at about 30,000 miles.

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your CR-V yourself? What have you tried so far?

No. I am trying to give my dealer some things to look at. I hoping you have a brain trust online to steer this repair.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Can't think of anything

Hi 3 things it could be. First and easiet to check would be the ac clutch relay in the underhood fuse box. When it starts to blow warm see if the ac clutch is engsged. If not swap the 2 relays marked with snowflakes.
Ask Your Own Honda Question
2nd thing is a thermocouple that measures heat and pressure on the ac compressor. If the relay trick didn’t work then you will have to replace the ac compressor

I don'nt understand how the compressor could be the problem since it cools great on cooler days
There’s a thermocoupler in the compressor itself and if the pressures get too high or too hot it shuts the ac clutch down and until it regulates to a lower temp it will start to work again. Very common on your generation crv and civics
Ask Your Own Honda Question
Now that it’s ac season the dealer I work at replaced 15-20 a month

OK that makes sense. Sad news. If I take the car in when it is not heating will they be able to tell it is the clutch
They can do a feeler gauge check on clutch to measure clearance from clutch to coil. I’m more confident in the compressor failing unfortunately

HONDA PLATINUM was great. I really appreciate his help. I was ready to trade my new Honda until he told me to wait until I got 3,000 miles on it and my gas mileage would get much better.

I took the Power Steering O-Ring service bulletin linked from JustAnswer to my Acura dealer, and not only did they no-charge the o-ring, they also replaced the power steering pump at no cost.
