2002 Honda Civic Si...

2002 Honda Civic Si 2.0 cranks but will not start

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the engine's fuel supply? And the spark plugs -- are they all working?

Have fuel but no spark

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Civic Si yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes changed the blue fuel pump relay near the computer, and the crankshaft position sensor

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Would not start one morning then the next morning it started and ran fine to a friends house about 5 miles away a few hours later it would not start again

Hello my name is ***** ***** welcome to just answers! I will be assisting you with all of your vehicle questions today. Give me one moment while I review your question and come back with a answer. Please be aware I do not know your skill level or abilities so I will be asking a lot of questions and in a lot of cases we will respond to each other quite a lot before we find a solution. As far as phone calls are concerned that is the system prompting you, not me, and they do cost more money, I prefer text but in some cases a phone call is required. If I don’t answer right away or quickly in conversation I am helping another customer or have stepped out for a moment and will respond as soon as I can. Ok lets get started!

Try banging on the fuel tank while trying to start and see if it cranks up

You mean the key symbol? No not even when you put the key in and try to start it
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

what about a check engine light?

Ask Your Own Honda Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
Check engine light comes on when you try to start it. Battery went dead, took it out to charge it. Checked for codes none were present after reinstalling battery. Guess that cleared the codes. There were codes present before the battery went dead, but didn't write them down. My Bad!
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

You should be able to crank on it until a code pops up, I would suspect the crank sensor may have a issue

Changed the crank sensor. Still won't start. What about the cam sensor?
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

that could also be a problem, both tell when to fire, because you did the crank did you look at the belt to make sure it was ok ?

Ask Your Own Honda Question
Customer reply replied 8 months ago
Doesn't this engine have a timing chain instead of a belt?
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 8 months ago

let me double check that, it is the 2.0?

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer! I apologize for the extended wait time you experienced, I've only just come online now and would like to assist you with your question.

There are quite a few things that could be going on and it's going to require some testing to determine exactly what is wrong. You could be missing spark for whatever reason, it may be a fuel delivery or fuel quality issue, cam timing, an exhaust restriction, even the engine controller itself.

Have you physically checked for spark?

Your answers were clear and the diagrams were perfect. Dealer wanted $87 for an hour of labor and even I did it in 15 minutes.

HONDA PLATINUM was great. I really appreciate his help. I was ready to trade my new Honda until he told me to wait until I got 3,000 miles on it and my gas mileage would get much better.

I took the Power Steering O-Ring service bulletin linked from JustAnswer to my Acura dealer, and not only did they no-charge the o-ring, they also replaced the power steering pump at no cost.
