Hello my name is ***** ***** I will be assisting you with all of your vehicle questions today. Give me one moment while I review your question and come back with a answer. Please be aware I do not know your skill level or abilities so I will be asking a lot of questions and in a lot of cases we will respond to each other quite a lot before we find a solution. As far as phone calls are concerned that is the system prompting you, not me, and they do cost more money, I prefer text but in some cases a phone call is required

Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

Let me know how these tests go

1. When the problem occurs, remove the air boot from the throttle body, block the throttle body and verify the engine will stall. If the engine continues to idle, check for a vacuum leak.

2. Block the air port for the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve in the throttle body and see if the idle slows down and the surging stops. If the idle slows down, the IAC valve is causing the high idle speed. Verify there is hot coolant flowing to the IAC valve and the coolant level isn't low. If good, the IAC valve may be faulty.

3. Unplug the IAC valve and see if the idle settles down. If so, check the Black/Blue wire for a short to ground. If not, the IAC valve may be faulty

Customer reply replied 3 months ago
the idle is fine idles great and runs great only under acceleration is surge present.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
surges pretty bad until high rpm
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

is it only under a load or can you get it to do it in park

Ask Your Own Honda Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
mostly under load
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

unplug the iac and drive it and see what she does

Ask Your Own Honda Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
ok ill try that what do I look for?
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

if it operates ok or better then you have a IAC problem,

Ask Your Own Honda Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
ill let you know but iac is usually a different problem
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
no not the problem issues got worse and check engine light came on
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
there has to be a more common problem, I was thinking distributor,or vtec
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
what do you think?
Customer reply replied 3 months ago

Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

Ask Your Own Honda Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
intake looks good, lokoks like a new throttle body gasket, and iac seems to be functioning.
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

if you spray carb cleaner around the intake does the rpms change?

Ask Your Own Honda Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
ill check but I doubt it pretty solid motor let you know
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

ok

Ask Your Own Honda Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
no no change, no intake leak, iac ok, and manifold absolute ok idles like a champ surges under acceleration crazy
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
vehicle idles great just acceleration surge issue
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

sounds like it may be a timing belt issue, looks like we have checked everything else, you said you checked the vtec system right ?

Ask Your Own Honda Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
we pulled vtec solenoid and added power and it clicked also pulled plunger and all seems ok
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
why would idle be ok
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
it has plenty of power
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
normally would run like shit
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
or a loss of power
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
don't make sence?
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

I would try to make it fail so it would throw codes, with no codes we have to check each one, it makes me think under load you have oil pressure problem like vtec oil pres switch, it also could be a cam sensor.

Ask Your Own Honda Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
both those items normally cause a code? don't they so we should drive again and see what code comes up?
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I was hoping for a more common problem I guess I could have done that on my own.
Mechanic for Honda: Mechanic01, ASE Certified Technician replied 3 months ago

yes both cause codes, thats why I would push it hard to see if a code pops up,

HONDA PLATINUM was great. I really appreciate his help. I was ready to trade my new Honda until he told me to wait until I got 3,000 miles on it and my gas mileage would get much better.

I took the Power Steering O-Ring service bulletin linked from JustAnswer to my Acura dealer, and not only did they no-charge the o-ring, they also replaced the power steering pump at no cost.
