I changed the battery in my key fob and now the fob is not

Customer Question

I changed the battery in my key fob and now the fob is not working
JA: Have you changed a battery before?
Customer: No, first time
JA: What is the model/year of your Honda?
Customer: 2011 Honda Accord
JA: Are you fixing your Accord yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I put the old battery back in and now it doesn't work either. The old battery wasn't completely dead and was working. I bought a new battery just to keep it working.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: The car will not start either with this key

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If the fob was working until the battery was replaced then odds are the fob was damaged in the process of replacing the battery. If it hadn't been working before this then there could be a problem with the keyless entry receiver but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Are you positive that the battery is being oriented correctly for polarity?
