Honda Civic 57 plate.
Oil warning light + ! is constantly on as of around 1 week ago.
Have checked oil level and all ok - was well above min. (have added a little to bring up to just below max.
Warning light still on permanently.
Have read some info about changing pressure switch, Oil Level sensor and ECU updates as well as a simple oil change.
I'm Now confused and not sure of next step - would like to resolve myself if possible to save some money.

Also have seen suggestions that as a sensor and if I manually check oil until I fix it then there is no risk to damaging the engine. - can you confirm this?

Hi there,

You may well have an oil pressure problem.

The warning light should be on, key on engine off.

Now disconnect the oil pressure switch, light should be off.

If it is not off, you have a grounded sensor wire.

The next thing to do is check the engine oil pressure with a mechanic's gauge.

If it is ok, then replace the oil pressure switch.

Thanks will check this... can I easily locate the switch to disconnect - please advise location? Also, will the care be damaged if my partner continues to drive the car before fixing.

Hi Richard,

Is your warning light for oil pressure or oil level?

Red light or yellow light?

The oil level sensor is in the sump, the oil pressure switch is near the oil filter housing.

I would not be driving until we ascertain it is a low level warning (which we know is a lie), or low pressure which would be detrimental.

Hi Gary the light is yellow see attached picture

Hi Richard,

The yellow warning is oil level.

I have seen many reasons for oil level warning lights on.

Could be a wiring fault, or the sensor.

You can drive it, but the sooner you get it repaired, the better.

I would take it to Honda for their diagnosis, they would have seen it before and know how much to repair.

Hope this helps.
