My 04 Honda is squealing whenever I turn the steering wheel.

Customer Question

My 04 Honda is squealing whenever I turn the steering wheel. It's very high pitched and only happens when the car has been sitting for awhile and it stops after the car has been driven for a mile or so. The squealing happens even when the car is in park and the steering wheel is being turned. There's plenty of power steering fluid in the car and I very recently had the timing belt and head gasket replaced.

Hello and Welcome! I'm Billy and i will assist you with your inquiry. Feel free to ask if any further info is needed.
Can you open the hood, have someone steer, and check if the noise is coming from the drive belt area? (where the power steering pump, alternator etc.. are located)
And if the noise is there, can you pour slowly some water on it, and see if the sqeualing goes away?

Hi Billy Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.
I put soap and some plastic spray on the belt but it continued to squeak
Expert:  nabilc replied 2 years ago.
So you can confirm that the squealing is from the drive belt?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Yes it stop for a little then started again after I parked it for about an hour

In this case, if the tension is good on the belt, the belt requires replacement.
If the belt is loose (and i doubt it as it would continue to squeal), the belt and the tensioner would need replacement.
Kindly get back to me if further info is needed so we proceed accordingly.
