My 2000 Honda Accord transmission has a delay in shifting.

Customer Question

My 2000 Honda Accord transmission has a delay in shifting. Is this likely to lead to a complete failure? Can this be adjusted?

There are no adjustments that can be done. Shifting is electronically controlled. The transmission fail in the future, how long is not possible to say.
Doing a repeated drain and refill with Honda fluid may help some.

What course of action would you recommend? What are the typical costs for each option?

1. Complete rebuild of transmission?

2. Purchase a rebuilt transmission from Honda?

3. Replace with a salvage yard unit? If yes, What years are compatable with 2000 V6?

Expert:  Steve replied 7 years ago.
the best option would be a Honda remanufactured unit. It will come with a 3yr 36000 mile warranty.
A salvage yard unit is a crap shoot as to how long it will last, most come with a 12month warranty but do not cover labor to replace it if it is bad.
2000 to 2002 are the same. I will try and put some prices together later for you.

Thanks!

A Honda remanufactured transmission may run $2900.00 installed depending on shop labor rates in your area.
A used transmission may run $2100.00 installed.
