Welcome to Just Answer!

Did you just have a clutch replaced by chance? If you did you may want to check if the connector is reversed at the switch or replacement of the switch. Here:

The back-up light switch is located on the trans axle (side nearest firewall) next to the clutch cable mount bracket. The switch has two wires coming from it that run through a plastic cover.

  1. Disconnect the electrical lead from the back-up light switch.
  2. Using an open end type wrench, remove the switch from the trans axle, note that some fluid will drain from the trans axle and should be replaced.
  3. Install the new switch in place and torque it to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4. Connect the wires and check the operation of the switch.

The back up light switch is part # XXXXX Check that connector first. Any other questions, please let me know. Thank you.
