Hello again!

You can download the completed assignments here:

Some notes on the assignments:

Per the instructions, some of the "parts" are in a single file. For instance, a7p1 has both parts 1 and 2 because the instructions state that you should do part to in the a7p1 file and keep the name a7p1. This is also true with a8p1 and a8p2 (both are in a8p1). And a8p3 contains 3, 4, and 5, as per the instructions.

You will find a file called links.txt

You can use those link to see for yourself that the assignment 6 xml/dtd/xsd requirements have been met. However, you are supposed to use link based on your hosting with the school, so you are going to want to make some changes.

First, upload a6p1.dtd to your server. Then, open a6p2.xml in a text editor and change this link:

To the link to the dtd file on your school server.

Then upload a6p2.xml to your school server.

Then you will go to and type in the address for the XML file (not the DTD) and click validate. Assuming that you changed the link in the file correctly, it will validate just like the links that I gave you. However, it will provide you with a different link (one that reflects your server).

Then upload a6p3.xsd to your schools server and go to

You will type in the address to the a6p3.xsd file on your server and select the "Schema" radio button. Then validate and get the new link.

Your instructor wants you to place those two links on your index page.

You don't need to change anything else at all. However, you must upload eveything to the server before you can test any of it.

Hello again,

I had a quick question regarding the a8part1 for this assignment. When I validate it it shows errors "Bad value part_CC001 for attribute id on element input: An ID must not contain whitespace." I'm sure it's something simple.

I do not believe that you have any requirement to validate a PHP web page. Generally, that isn't done.

And that error is because caused because there is white space after the CC001 in the database. The database is provided by your school/instructor. So now you have to write code to work around bad database situations created by your instructor. A value inserted into a database should not have trailing white space. This error is caused by your instructor, not your code. Here is the code to work around the bad database design data: (See now that we are trimming that value)

foreach($hardArray as $key => $value) {
$part_num = trim($value['hdw_part_no']);
echo "";
echo "{$value['hdw_name']} ({$value['hdw_weight']} lbs.)";
echo "\${$value['hdw_price']}";
echo "";
echo "";

Sorry, the code didn't come through correctly in the previous message:

foreach($hardArray as $key => $value) {
$part_num = trim($value['hdw_part_no']);
echo "<tr>";
echo "<th>{$value['hdw_name']} ({$value['hdw_weight']} lbs.)</th>";
echo "<td>\${$value['hdw_price']}</td>";
echo "<td><input type='text' name='part_{$part_num}' title='{$value['hdw_name']}' ";
echo "id='part_{$value['hdw_part_no']}' size='2' /></td>";
echo "</tr>";

oh ok...well I emailed him and waiting for his reply. Thanks for your help again and I'll keep in touch if I need anything else. Thanks!

Well, here is the changed file:

This will work around the bad database data. There was no way to know that the database data had white space in it when I was working on it because I had no access to your school's webdev database.
