The question asks about Taoism not Daoism ...

DXJAnswerMagic :

Daoism is just Taoism....different spelling.

To make a long story short Taoism is based on Wade-Giles romanization and Daoism is based on the common and currently accepted romanized spelling from pinyin.

Even in your question you said: principles of Taoism (Daoism)

Taoism in my opinion can be revered as a religion since it
promotes beliefs in the spiritual realm and is concerned with the purpose of the
universe contrary to Confucianism, which I believe is not truly a religion but
rather a system of social philosophy and ethics with no care for spiritual
realm outside our earthly existence. Continuing,
Taoism I believe is truly a religion because it has a specific fundamental belief
that is written and has practicing priests, rituals and reverence for
supernatural deities. Whereas, Confucianism has no priesthood, no perception of
and afterlife, no revealed scriptures and does not bind to a set of austere or reclusive
tradition.
