To analyse a character you need to look at how the writer presents the character to the reader and the role the character plays in the narrative (or story). Think about the appearance, speech and actions the character makes, as well as any comments the narrator makes. Look out for words which may suggest a particular point of view. Ask yourself what? how?

Basically you are taking a character and FIGURING OUT THEIR PERSONALITY. ... you will prove to the reader you know their personality pointing out facts and evidence in the story about what the character says, does, thinks, acts. This is also known as a CHARACTER ANALYSIS

What are the attitude of the character? How does the character relate to others? Is the charcter sarcastic? is the character kind? Does the character love / like / hate life ... how do peole respond to the character when the character is around them (fear, love, hate). What in the story TELLS YOU THIS?? Where is the PROOF or EVIDENCE? What scene in the story shows this? What did the character say that shows this? How does the character ACT that shows?

When you analyze ANYTHING .. what you are bascially doing is breaking it down into smaller parts .. into smaller questions.

I went to cliffnotes (which can be helpful when used right) and they sumarized it really well ... (I hi-lighted important things) .. keep in mind .. all you are doing is describing to a reader the characters personality and HOW you know that is the personality ... what did the character DO in the story that showed that. Here is is ... very simple to understand ...

To analyze a character (also known as doing a character analysis) ... start with a few important facts about the character that influence her development, such as where she grew up and/or lives, the type of people her parents were/are, if she has siblings, and so on. For example, a character born and raised in the big city will be quite different from someone from a rural area. Or a character whose parents died when she was young will have a different outlook on life than someone whose parents are still alive.

Use these facts to draw conclusions about the type of person the character is, and how his background influences his actions in the story. For example, a character who grew up in the country as an only child and didn't have many friends may be shy, reserved, afraid to take risks, and may have a difficult time adjusting to a sudden move to the big city, and may even resist such a move. Or a character who lost his parents early in life and went from one foster home to another may grow up to be a very independent, self-reliant person, for whom a move to the big city would be a welcome challenge.

Also, show how the events of the story influence the development of the character - that is, how what happens in the story takes the character from the way she is at the beginning of the story to the way she is at the end of the story. This is also called the character's arc.

For instance, that independent, self-reliant character who moves to the big city may encounter difficulties that shake her confidence, and life in the big city suddenly becomes a struggle. If she can overcome those struggles by the end of the story, she becomes even stronger than at the beginning of the story.

When you're done with your character analysis, you should have a fairly complete portrait of who he was before the story began and how he changed during the story to become the person he is at the end of the story.

I think a character analysis would be a great compre / contrast for you .. You could compare two women main characters and describe their personality strengths and weaknesses .. see where they are similar and different.

Dramatic irony requires a very certain type of story and usually it needs to have a lot of exchange between characters - meaning the story is usually going to be more complex and involved. I would avoid focusing on that if I were you and go for something not so hidden ... until you get better at this.
