There is no evidence that Nux vomica is effective in the treatment of PMR. There also is a concern that certain preparations of Nux vomica may contain dangerous levels of strychnine, and there have been reports of strychnine poisoning that has occurred from the use of Nux vomica supplements.
The treatment that has been shown to be effective is the use of steroids, such as prednisone.
