Hello. Thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear that your nephew had a fracture and recently discovered osteochondroma. There are indeed some toxic substances in the Comfrey plant that lead some people to discourage its use internally. Small amounts are probably fine for a person who is otherwise healthy. For example, one cup of comfrey tea per day for a few days. Personally, I do not recommend the use of the whole comfey plant taken internally because it does contain some toxins. However, there are other ways to use comfrey that are safer and can actually be even more effective. A homeopathic preparation of comfrey is called Symphytum officinale 30C can be taken safely internally. This preparation is non-toxic and is indicated for the treatment of fractures. The dosage is 5 pellets dissolved under the tongue, two or three times per day for up to five days.
