Hello. It is safe to use the garlic mullein oil ear drops as long as the drum is intact and is not perforated. If there is a hole in the ear drum, then it is better not to use the ear drops. Sometimes the ear drops can be soothing to the middle ear, even though the oil does not normally pass through the ear drum in large amounts. Probably a small amount of the oil will cross the ear drum and this is enough to ease the middle ear. Also there are a number of different homeopathic remedies that can be used to treat labrynthitis. For symptoms of fullness,crackling and burning in the canals, the first remedy to consider is homeopathic Pulsatilla nigricans 30C. The dosage is 5 pellets dissolved under the tongue, once or twice per day for up to three days. If this doesn't seem to help, the next remedy to try is homeopathic Mercurius vivus 30C with the same dosing instructions. Dr. Zeoli
You are welcome. It's hard to say why the Q tip caused a flare up. The skin of the ear canal is very thin and very sensitive. It is possible for a Q tip to cause some irritation in the ear canal and it is even possible for a Q tip to break the skin. If the skin was broken, then it is possible for there to be an infection in the canal. However, if you have had your ear examined by a doctor, then this would have been very obvious.
There are many things that you could do to prevent or treat a viral or bacterial infection though. Herbs such as Echinacea Root and Olive Leaf Extract can be helpful for stimulating the immune system. These are easy to find at any vitamin store, herb shop, or health food store.
You may also consider supplements such as Zinc 15mg, up to three times per day with a meal to help with proper immune system function.
Vitamin D deficiency is common, and taking Vitamin D3 in doses of up to 5000 IU per day can also be helpful for promoting the proper functioning of the immune system.
Colloidal silver can also be helpful for killing all kinds of different organisms including viruses and bacteria.
