Hello. There are a number of different strategies to support the health of the lungs and treat symptoms of asthma using natural therapies. The first step would be to identify any dietary factors which may be contributing to your son's symptoms and then eliminating these particular foods from his diet. For example, having a food allergy test to identify any possible food allergens would be an excellent idea. People who are allergic to dairy products can often reduce their symptoms by eliminating dairy products from their diet. If your son has had problems with dairy in the past, then it is extremely likely that he is still having problems with dairy now. Definitely I would recommend that he go off of dairy completely for a number of weeks to see if that helps relieve the symptoms. Sometimes there can be other unknown food allergies, which is why the food allergy test can be helpful.
The supplements that are typically used to treat asthma include Magnesium Citrate (300 to 600 mg per day) and Cod Liver Oil (1 or 2 tablespoons per day). There is an herb called Yerba Santa that is also used for relieving symptoms of asthma. It is best taken as a tea or capsule.
