Sister had allergic reaction to...

Sister had allergic reaction to the herb named Rue (4 weeks ago)with blisters on knee at first and now for 3 weeks has painful hives which keep occurring all over her body. Has had steroid shot 2 weeks ago along with oral steroid for 5 days and benadril; Off of steroids now and benedril has not been effective. She is at the ER as i write this because of swelling all over her face, extreme tiredness and a fainting spell this am. Don't know all of the tests they have completed at the ER only know blood work was normal. This has been very concerning and not getting better. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks so much

Hello and welcome, I would like to help you by answering your question. I am sorry to hear of your sister's reaction to taking Rue. In homoepathic form, the herb Rue is called Ruta Graveolens. One of the main documented antidotes to an over-reaction or an over-dosage of Ruta Graveloens is Camphor Officinalis. I suggest that your sister takes a single dose of Camphor 30c to see if this has a favourable affect on her symptoms. If so, depending on the degree of response, she could proceed with further doses as appropriate.

There are other homeoapthic remedies associated with her symptoms - Rhus toxicodendron, Apis mellifica and Arnica montana would all be possibilities. However as Camphor is listed as a specific antidote, she should try this option first.

Here is some general information about taking homeopathic remedies. To take a dose, simply tip one pill straight from the bottle into the lid, or use a clean teaspoon to place under your tongue, without touching it and leave to melt. As with all homeopathic remedies, you need to avoid brushing your teeth, eating or drinking for twenty minutes either side of taking it as this can antidote the remedy. For the same reason it is best to avoid any coffee, large quantities of mint or the use of strong smelling substances such as menthol, tea-tree or eucalyptus whilst on a course of homeopathic treatment.

Thank you, ***** ***** rate you now but wondered if I could get further clarification if you don't mind. The rue was not ingested, it was contact dermatitis, then got a shot of steriod. Three days later had a big blister and then 3 or 4 days later she started having hives. Now a few times has had hives and facial swelling and ended up in ER a few times. The whole process has been going on over the last few months. She did also get bit by a deer tick in July. What impressions do you have on what this might be. Thank you so much for your assistance. Also at the ER they found the heart, thyroid, white blood count, urine, kidneys were all good and no blood clots. Any further information would be helpful. She has an appointment with an allergist, however the price is going to be over $2000.00 so if it can be figured out before that it would be good. Thanks again.

Thank you for the rating. Your sister has had a systemic response to the rue regardless of whether it was ingested or topically applied and this is the outcome that needs to be addressed. When did the tick bite occur in relation to the rue and the onset of symptoms?Sorry just to be sure I have this right, your sister developed dermatitis after applying the rue, for which she then had a steroid shot? Then the blisters etc followed. What did she initially use the rue for?

The tick bite was a week or two before comming into contact with the rue in the herb garden. After going to dr. with blisters on knee it was a few days until she broke out all over with the contact dermatitis and got the steriod shot. Hope that helps.

Ok. It is not clear cut what part the tick bite and what part the reaction to rue have each played in your sister's current symptoms. They may in fact be the outcome of the combination of both. However in the light of the information about the tick bite I am going to change my recommendation to starting with Rhus toxicodendron 30c as a first choice of remedy. Your sister should take this in exactly the same way as described above for the Camphor.
I suggest you post an update after she taken one or several doses as appropriate and we can see how best to proceed.
