What natural therapies can I take to increase blood cell count and help with liver function?

Hi there - you can do a number of things but I would like to get a little more information to best guide you. How low are your WBC and how long have they been low? Also, did you have a lab test that showed abnormal liver enzymes? And can you tell me a little about your symptoms? Thanks!

I have requested additional information because it will help me narrow down the selection of a remedy or natural therapy for you. Homeopathic remedies are chosen based on an individual’s unique symptoms presentation and so details are very important. Details that will help me to help you include: the specific location in the body your symptom appears. For example if you have a head ache, it helps me to know if it is the right temple area versus “the head”. Also, the more detail you can provide for the sensations the better – for example if you have a pain, I need to know what kind of pain – sharp, stabbing, aching, burning, etc. Knowing what helps you to feel better and worse also helps – such as a hot pack, ice, being inside or outside, walking or sitting still, being with other people or being alone, all those sorts of things. Last, but not least, it helps to know if there arre any other syptoms related – such as, everytime I have the head pain, my eye twitches. Or, everytime I my sinuses act up, my back hurts. In general, the more details you can provide me with helps me be more accurate in the remedy or natural therapy suggestion I provide.

In general there are a few things to consider to help your immune system and liver function.

Immune system:

• The first thing to address is your diet. Limit your sugar intake including high fructose corn syrup, do not add sugar to any of your foods, avoid processed foods. All of these have been shown to decrease immune function. Make sure you take in enough fresh green vegetables, whole grains, fruit, lean protein, and fluids (water and herbal tea). These changes can go a long way to helping your immune system.


• There are several herbs and mushrooms which have been shown to support immune function like Elderberry, Astragalus, Withania, Eleutherococcus, Ginseng, shiitake, maitake, and reishi. I would look for a basic immune function formula in your local healthfood store that contains these ingredients. Something like the following two products might work well:

• If you have a condition that has been diagnosed, or labwork that show a particular immune system issue, the above may or may not be things to use. There are some immune issues that need to be approached in a different way.

Liver

• In general one of the best ways to support liver function is with herbs like milk thistle, dandelion and burdock. But again, it depends on if there is a specific issue with the liver, like hepatitis.


• Overall, using these herbs in a tincture formula usually works very well for most people. They are often sold together.


• Again, if you have a condition that has been diagnosed, there may be many other approaches to use with the liver.

Exercise has excellent immune boosting effects – but always check with your doctor before starting any exercise program.

Getting enough sleep is very important as this is when our body rejuvenates and does much of its healing.

Stay hydrated with fresh, clean water. It might help to squeeze fresh lemon juice for the pH balancing effect.

Meditation and yoga both have solid research behind them to show increased immune function. And there are many resources available online to the beginner meditator and even beginning yoga moves.
