Im going out optical from my tv in to the avr-486 and i got no sound

Technician's Assistant: What is your speaker connected to or paired with? Are all cables connected tightly?

Speaker are connected to the avr-486 left and right

Technician's Assistant: Have you tried a different audio source (e.g. another TV, computer, or CD)?

Dont have anything else with optical out

Technician's Assistant: Anything else you want the Theater Expert to know before I connect you?

Sorry for the delay, I just got to my desk. On your receiver remote, switch the mode 1 switch to audio. Press the setup button to enter the menu. Press the down arrow repeatedly until you see digital in. Press the > arrow. Press the down arrow repeatedly until you see OPT. Press the right arrow until you see TV, then your optical input is assigned to the TV input. Now switch to your TV source on your receiver, and you should have sound.

Note that if you don't see a red light on the end of the optical cable that is plugged into your receiver, you'll need to go into your TV's audio menu, turn the TV speakers off, then make sure the output is set to Bitstream, Dolby, or Pro Logic (not PCM).

Let me know how it works. This may require a little adjustment.

There should be more than that in the display on the front of the unit. Press the setup button again to confirm your selection, and then tell me what you see in the display.

Ok, now press the EX IN button on the bottom of the remote. If that doesn't give you sound, press the MODE button on the bottom left of the remote a few times.

If that still doesn't do the trick, give me the model number of your TV so I can take a look at the settings. We need to match the signal.

Ok, apparently that selection didn't save. Do the setup again, at the end, press ENTER then SETUP, and tell me if you see anything more than OPT TV.
