Nathan : Hello, I'm Nathan and I will be assisting you today. Please remember to rate/accept my answer when we have finished. Thank you.
Nathan : Hi there, sorry to hear your'e having trouble,
Nathan : This combination of devices isn't really compatible,
Nathan : the cinemate is meant to be a standalone device,
Nathan : it is intended to serve as both a receiver/amplifier as well as the speakers
Nathan : presumably most of your devices are digital (cable/satellite box, dvd, game, etc) and using hdmi connections, which the bose does not support
Nathan : the idea with the bose is that you hook all your devices directly to the tv, preferably via hdmi, then a single optical/coax cable out of the tv (digital audio out port) to the bose
Nathan : The optical connection on the denon is an input (to the denon) only,
Nathan : it has no mechanism for outputting digital audio, so it really can't interface well with the bose system
Nathan : You are really getting no benefit from using the bose system with the denon, they are both serving the same purpose,
Nathan : you'd be better off putting the bose to use in another room or with another tv, and enjoying it as an independent system, and use the denon by itself
Customer: So is there any way we can get our iPad music to play through the Bose wirelessly? We were trying to have the Bose serve as the only speakers...
Nathan : Not through the denon, no
Nathan : you would need some added equipment
Nathan : my suggestion would be an AppleTv,
Nathan : which you can use for other functions as well (internet radio, netflix, other apps, etc)
Nathan : you can stream airplay to the appletv via wifi, and the atv can output optical to the bose, hdmi to the tv, etc
Customer: To be clear, we'd need addl equipment to ru. The iPad wirelessly to the Bose? If so, what do we need.
Nathan :
AppleTV
(click for link) Customer: Gotcha. That would then allow us to use Apple TV for the inside of the house while keeping the denon for use with the outdoor speakers?
Nathan : Well, it depends how you hook things up, really
Nathan : But yes, you would be able to
Nathan : I would hook the appletv up to the denon via hdmi
Nathan : and also to the bose via optical
Nathan : that will let you get appletv sound through either one (basically, whichever is powered on), as well as pass video to the tv if you want to use the atv for other things like netflix
Customer: So... Apple TV to Bose and Apple TV to denon via hdmi
Customer: Do we use the Hdmi out on the Denon?
Nathan : If you want video to the tv, yes
Nathan : Really you don't have to go through the denon, unless you wanted to have the appletv content through the denon speakers
Nathan : if you only ever want it through the bose, you can do just optical to the bose
Nathan : and if you want sound through the bose for watching appletv content inside, you can hook hdmi directly to the sharp from the atv
Nathan : either way would be fine
Customer: Sounds like we're back to where we started then, only using the Bose for the smart tv apps and the DVD. But would the Apple TV allow us to play iPad music through the Bose if Apple TV is connected to the Bose?
Customer: Just want to be clear..
Nathan : sorry to cause confusion. If that is all you want, then you can connect the atv to the bose via optical, and that is all that is really needed
Nathan : You would still want to hook atv to the sharp via hdmi though, because you'll have to go through some initial setup steps that require a monitor, adjusting menu settings, etc
Customer: I was just going to ask abt the connection - optical v Hdmi. So would we stick w Hdmi to connect a tv to Bose, or switch to optical after initial setup?
Nathan : The bose has no hdmi ports
Nathan : it will only work via optical/coax (or the old analog connections)
Customer: To be clear, are there two connections to the Bose. Applet
Nathan : the purpose of the hdmi (from bose to sharp) is to see the appletv setup menu and video
Nathan : *sorry, I meant from appletv to sharp
Nathan : and the purpose of the optical (from atv to bose) is for the audio (streaming ipad)
Customer: to be clear, are there two connections to the. Bose? Both the Apple TV and the Sharp tv? Or does the Sharp connect to the Bose via the Apple TV?
Nathan : The sharp does not interface with the bose via the tv
Nathan : what I was suggesting is that any OTHER sources that you want to play sound through the bose (like dvd, cable/satellite, etc) could first connect to the sharp via hdmi
Nathan : with an optical out from the tv to the bose (passing sound to the bose, instead of using the tv speakers)
Nathan : you'd need that in place as well to get audio through the bose from the smart apps which are built into the tv
Customer: Um... We have the Bose connected directly thru the tv now. Just need to know if the Apple TV runs Bowen the tv and the Bose or if there's a separate connection.
Nathan : you have 2 options,
Nathan : you can connect the appletv only to the tv via hdmi (this is a minimum requirement)
Nathan : and the appletv can then stream the audio to the bose, through the tv. This would require the tv to be turned on whenever you are playing from the ipad though
Customer: Last question... Do I get a transcript of this conversation? If so, I can figure it out once we get the Apple TV. Got a two-year old running around at the moment...
Nathan : so if you wish to be able to have just the bose turned on, without the tv running, then you could also add an optical from atv to the bose
Nathan : Does that make sense?
Customer: Yes, that's exactly what we hope for. Want to hear Bose w TV and Bose w iPad.
Nathan : And yes, after you "rate" me, this live chat converts to a regular web page. You can bookmark/favorite this page, print it, etc at that point to see all of our prior conversation
Customer: Just thought we could have to integrate it w wireless feature of denon. But seems that Apple TV does the same thing.
Nathan : Yes it does. The issue with the denon is that it will only want to output sound through the speakers attached directly to it
Customer: Thanks, XXXXX XXXXX think I've got it.
Nathan : Feel free to get back in touch if you get stuck during the setup process at all
Customer: Thank you!
