Bought the house recently, so no idea how to use system. It

Hi. Bought the house recently, so no idea how to use system. It has an orange trouble light on, and beeps about every minute or two. I tried entering the code to turn off, but get a series of different messages - but the beeping continues. Even tried disconnecting the battery pack, but as it is wired in the thing just keeps going! any ideas please just to shut it off? thanks
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact make and model of your machine?
Customer: Visonic. Not home at the moment, so cannot see model number - but will ask my wife to look now...
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: a day and a half
JA: Anything else you want the security expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: tried entering the code when prompted - using some of the prompts available, but to no avail
