VerifiedGood question. The issue will be has the area been painted before or is it new drywall that has been taped, floated and sanded. If never painted before I would dust all walls and ceilings down and use a quality primer.
Priming should take off the gloss. I do not know if there are modifications made to paint lines sold in the big box stores. In the past I have found formulations to not contain the pigment concentrations. I buy from the Sherwin Williams paint stores.
