Very unusual to hear this for sure. The smell will eventually dissipate, I wouldn't be concerned about it as far as a safety issue. That one wall you say is giving most of the odor, you could treat that will Zinsser Odor blocking Primer. Then paint and it should get rid of the smell if you are not wanting to wait for the smell to dissipate on it's own.

Yes, that primer is water based. I'm just surprised the top coat didn't hide any smell. It does smell out of the can, but usually once the topcoat is put on, it goes away. I generally can smell "new" paint for maybe up to 3 days.

It will eventually dissipate. I wouldn't leave the windows open if it's cold and damp outside though. I think heat may be your best friend to help dry all this fully. But you don't want the it picking up in your filter system and disbursing throughout the house.

I had never noticed that with Zinsser. The maximum to be considered LOW VOC is 50 grams per liter. Your Zinnser is double that and the paint is on the borderline at the high end of that spectrum.

Yes that's pretty high. I guess I may have used a much lower VOC or No VOC on my topcoats

No worries about the language :) I think if you get a NO VOC topcoat or at least a very low VOC topcoat and go over it, you'll be ok.

***** ***** makes a NO VOC as does Sherwin Williams. Actually the latter makes an "air purifying paint" if I recall, let me look for that.

I deal with a local Sherwin Williams on bigger jobs and the folks there are always helpful. They'd be the ones to ask if you need to start over or can go right over the top of it with that paint. They hear so much from customers and contractors everyday, they'll know for sure!

Very nice job!! Maybe you can get away with taping off the stripes and painting around them. Ask the folks at Sherwin Williams, you'll have a store near you.

Great folks there and it's all the do for a living. Usually they work and the store and some also paint for a living as well. Top notch folks and they won't over sale you anything you don't need.

I still think that paint from Sherwin Williams will cover that odor.

I learned something tonight myself. That Zinnser has too much VOC. I never knew. I'll use Bulls Eye or Kilz 2. But I better check those first.

I'm surprised. I still think I must have covered it with a Low or NO VOC paint.

Sometimes customer want a specific brand of paint, but from now on, I'll stick with my brand of choice.

I think worse case scenario is, paint the top half and bottom half with the Sherwin Zero VOC paint around the stripes. I can't see the stripes producing much odor. Unless you get on a roll and decide to do everything again.
