Customer Question

I hired a contractor to do some work for me. I paid him 6,000. the agreement was that he would open a few walls and install windows and doors. There was also a hump on the kitchen floor. He opened it up and found I needed new joists. He proceeded to work on this in February. He promised that he would have the doors and windows in by March 10 and then claimed he was being help up by the electrician. This was not true as I believe he took on other jobs and left mine. He also worked with a another gentlemen who had a falling out and is now working for me. He states that this guy does is not licensed and insured. Man number 2 states that he worked for guy hired for 18 hrs at a cost of 45.00/. /
per hour. 2 weeks ago the guy number 1 told me that he would not be able to finish my cabin . I asked him for a refund and he told me that the work he did was more than 6,000. of which I cannot believe. Below please find the work listed that he claims he did. I finally was able to get him to send me list of things he claims he did because I threatened to take legal action. The flooring was linoleum rubber squares and sheet rock. Can you please review and tell me if you think that is correct. Guy number 2 left after 18 hrs of work total of 850.00. I think the time is ballooned so he does not refund my money

Hello my name is and I will be happy to assist you.

I have to ask what exactly you like an answer to?

Did you have a contract with him.

Was he licences and bonded.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I want to know if the work listed that he states he did is about 6,000. worth of work. We only had a verbal contract and I have heard that he is not licensed but has been working in the town for many years. It is a small town in upstate New York and everyone seems to know each other. Unknown to him , worker number 2 who did 18 hrs with him is now working for me. He had a falling out with the owner of the company. He was the one who told me that he is not licensed (I was surprised as the town is very strict with the permits). Worker number 2 does not feel that the work done is 6000 but I wanted to get an outside opinion. Hope this helps.

First things first if you have a verbal contract for him to get something done for certain amount then he is obligated to do so legally.

If you have to hire another contractor to finish what was promised then he must pay for the costs.

Now you asking me if what he did was worth $6000.00 that is irrelevant because he dint finish the work promised.

You stated he worked 85h x 65.00 per h=5590.00

On the other hand if I did it I charge $95.00 = 7310.00

Hope this works.
