My flame is low and sooty in my heatalator natural gas

Customer Question

My flame is low and sooty in my heatalator natural gas fireplace. The exhaust vent is also sooty and blacker than it should be. Its an older model. Is there a way to lean out the flame? I am very capable to do the work.

Hello my name is ***** ***** I'm here to help you out. First off has it ever worked properly (nice flames, no soot)? If so I would start with cleaning the burner - remove the logs and other decorative materials to expose the burner and clean with a shop vac. If you are able to remove the burner and take it outside to use an air compressor this will work better and keep the spot down in the house.
