Did you turn off the shut off valve on the water line into the tank? Is it leaking up through the middle of the anode nut or around the threads?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
It's leaking from around the threats and looks rusted I'm afraid if I try to thigh the exago nut it might get worse

You don't want to tighten it. If you've confirmed the leak by wiping the water away then checking it again the next step would be to remove the rod and replace it. I'm assuming this is a separate anode with a hex head showing on top of the tank
