I purchased a used dryer with a four prong plug but the outlet

I purchased a used dryer with a four prong plug but the outlet in my rental is a three prong. Is there an adapter that will convert four to the three or should I have the outlet rewired? Which is more affordable?

Hello Kristen my name is XXXXX XXXXX thank you for choosing our service.

The easiest and cheapest thing to do is go to Lowes or Home depot and get a 3 prong cord to fit the outlet.

If you go around behind your dryer and remove the cord you will see 3 lugs that the cord is attached to. Remove those to get the cord out.

Put your new 3 prong cord onto the dryer lugs like this.

Red wire to either outside lug.

White to the center lug.

Black to the other outside lug.

It is very easy to do, just be sure that when you go pick your new dryer cord up that it will match the outlet. That will take care of it.
