I have a Crastsman Garage Door Opener. Suddenly, all the remotes

This answer was rated:

I have a Crastsman Garage Door Opener. Suddenly, all the remotes stopped working. This includes handheld, keyless entry pad, and two car built-in openers. The hardwired wall unit works fine. All other aspects of the opener seem to work fine also. When I try to reprogram the remotes using the "Learn" button on the unit, nothing happens. Over the phone one garage door company says my ciruit board is probably bad and I might as well change out the entire garage door opener! This is a lot of work and seems excessive. Any other ideas I can check out?
Hi, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I will be helping you today.

See if you have the lock feature on your wall button. The lock feature on your wall button, when engaged, will not allow the remotes to work. You have to hold the button with the lock symbol for 5 seconds to disengage. Wall button flashes when it is engaged and does not flash when it is disengaged. If it appears to be unlocked, there is a chance that the wall button is defective/ worn out and tricking the opener into thinking that the lock feature is engaged. This would require replacing the wall button or verifying that the wiring is not loose at the wall button.

If you don't have the lock feature and you are certain that you erased all codes and then reprogrammed a single remote correctly, per the owners manual, and had no luck, then I would have to say you have a problem within the motor unit. If you can get one of the remotes to program, but not the rest, let me know, because that would be a different problem.

The things that would effect the signal range of the remote(s) are the antenna or logic board. I would verify that the antenna is hanging straight down. Also verify that the antenna is secured to the logic board.

If all of that is good, you may have a bad/ burnt solder connection on the board or the board may have a solder defect at the antenna. This would require a new logic board (as the door company was saying)....and unfortunately they cost around $70 (average). If your opener is older than 10 years then I would recommend putting that money towards a new opener. It just makes more sense. If it comes to that, you will enjoy the latest technology and safety features.

I had already checked the lock button and verified it was not locked. I cannot program any of the remotes, like I said. I opened the unit the other day and verified the antenna was not disconnected or shorting. So, unfortunately, you have not been able to cast any new light on the subject. Thanks for trying. I don't think I got my money's worth, so I guess I have to give a low rating not to be charged. Sorry.

Randy, You don't need to rate the answer at all if you feel you already knew the information.

I gave you all the possibilities and now with your additional information, it sounds like the logic board. You will need to decide how you want to fix it.

Rating my answer poorly directly effects my ratings and not the site.

If you want your deposit refunded you can contact customer service. Thanks and have a great night and good luck with it.
