This actually very common, when the cold weather hits, it makes the garage door frame contract (shrink) and the electronic eyes at the door are no longer inline with eachother. Move them so they are alligned again and the door will work.

If you want this to stop happenning then you should check the door frame or whatever they are mounted on to be sure they are secured better.

Can you tell how to override or unwire the electronic eyes.

The lights on the electronic eyes are solid green, they are not flashing so the are aligned.

Then you have a bad sensor. or opener button on the wall mount
Charles :
but the symptoms you give are for the sensors being out of allignment, holding the button down is the overidr for the issue. The only other thing would be to move the sensors and place them facing eachother

It is not the opener button as it happens with the car button and one of the remotes that we use. I guess I need to replace the sensors.

The wall button is hard wired to the opener

where as the remotes are not, so if it has a problem, it can create an issue with the opener
