VerifiedI suspect the "soil storage" around the tree has prevented adequate water supply due to run off away from the trunk. Also the run off was of enough circumference it was getting to the "spread roots." I think this tree will be fine with plenty of new watering before freezing sets in up there. Dennis (cut2it)
PS.. There is a product found at nursery and landscape supply stores that is used when planting trees. It's a super fertilizer to kick start new trees and help alleviate any shock from the transplant. For your use, rather in the hole it would be used around the trunk and about 3 to 4 feet out. It can be watered in once applied. This could be helpful to insure the success of this tree getting on with natural growth.
Not likely... although some oxygen will penetrate soil when raining the actual oxygen required by a tree is in the air. And it's really the nitrogen in the air the trees are after.
