Customer Question

I just moved into a house with wood windows that open up and down but the windows don't slide easily.

You can rub candle wax or a soft bar soap along the insides of the window tracks. You may have to do this frequently depending on how often you open the windows. Sometimes you can gently tap both sides of jambs to move them slightly and relieve a little pressure.
The last resort is to have the sashes removed and have them sanded along the sides. This should be done by a window professional if you're not very handy.
