Welcome to JA and thanks for this question. Actually the 5th generation assay is a relatively newer test and the only difference between it and the 4th generation one is that it is able to detect antibodies against HIV 1 and HIV 2 in addition to the antigen. So it is a test which has a GREATER accuracy in detecting HIV as compared to the 4th generation test. Now coming to its accuracy at 8 weeks post exposure, actually at this point after the exposure it has a VERY HIGH accuracy in detecting HIV. The test can detect upto 98-99% of all HIV infections at 8 weeks. So the simple answer here would be that it is VERY accurate at 8 weeks. In order to achieve the maximum accuracy you would need to be tested at 12 weeks which yields an accuracy of 99.9%. However it is uncommon that a person who tests negative at 8 weeks would test as positive at 12 weeks. Usually those who test negative at 8 weeks would also test as negative at 12 weeks.

But to answer your question, the 5th generation test is very accurate at 8 weeks detecting 98% of HIV infections.
