Verifiedhello, My name is XXXXX XXXXX I may be able to help you out. The The Road Ranger transmissions can not slip once they are fully in gear, they can have difficulty shifting between ranges due to worn synchronizer clutches, but as long as they are in gear, there is a complete mechanical coupling. I suspect that your clutch is slipping. Ask your driver to see if there is any free movement of the clutch pedal there should be at least 3/4" to 1" of travel before the pedal gets hard and starts to release the clutch. Some Volvo's have a hydraulic activated clutch and it may feel differently so ask him if he has to push the pedal way down to get it to release or if it releases near the top of the pedal. If it doesn't have a hydraulic activated clutch the he may be able to adjust the linkage to get some free pedal. If this is all OK and it still slips, then a full clutch adjustment will need to be performed. I can give you the information on how to perform this, but it is difficult for one person to do by himself, the clutch may also be a self adjusting clutch that is just worn out.
