Hi my name is XXXXX XXXXX I may be able to help you out, Can you tell me if the engine is producing smoke while you are cranking it, and do you possibly have a clamp on ammeter that you can measure the cranking amps with? My first thoughts are that water and rust has gotten into the cylinders or into the compressor that is causing excessive drag.
Steve,
I did not see any smoke coming out of the exhaust stack when cranking the engine.
No, I don't have a clamp-on ammeter and I wouldn't know where to connect it if I did.
A friend of mine told me there could be a possibility of corrosion on the cylinder walls, etc., causing excessive friction on the piston rings. What else do you have? Thanks.
Don
Don, I feel that your friend could be right about corrosion on the cylinder walls causing the drag, but the fact that there is no smoke coming from the exhaust indicates to me that there is no fuel being injected into the cylinders, have you bled the fuel at the fuel injection lines?
Steve
No, I haven't.
This will take me a few days. My Sullair is not here right now but, when I get it back, weather permitting, I'll try doing what you suggested and go from there. Thanks.
