Install a pressure guage in the port on the filter cover. See what happens to the pressure from cold to hot when the machine warms. Pressure should be above 350 psi and not drop off in any gear even after it warms. If it does, the clutch piston seals are leaking. This could be from wear allowing the piston to extend to far out. The transmission would need to be rebuilt to repair this problem.

If it was only the pump, it would not work in reverse either.

A new pump could cost as much as $2000. Some are availalbe as a "Cat Classic Part" and would cost much less. The warranty is a little different but it is made to Cat spec's.

Did you inspect the filter when you removed it? You should always open the filter and layout a large section of the media to see what material is in it. This is a free analysis of the wear in you transmission.

Iron particles are shiny and will stick to a magnet, aluminum will not stick. Brass and copper can be seen as their normal colors. Bronze, from the clutch disc will have a dirty look and feel gritty.
