The most common overheat complaint for the 416 is when it is roaded too far and has too much oil in it. CAT says to drive machine distances less than thirty minutes or stop machine and allow transmission time to cool. If oil level is checked when it is not at normal operating temperature oil level can rise too high and drag in gear mesh causing excessive aeration.
The transmission has a strainer in it also. It needs to be removed and inspected for anything resctricting flow. I have some graphic to show you the location.
Sorry I did not ask before if the strainer was inspected.
This is the cover for a power shift transmission( five speed on handle)
This is a plug cover for screen. (standard shift, four on the floor)
There have been issues with the four wheel drive clutch wear and also some gear changes. If transmission is working normally, I would cut transmission filter open with every engine oil change and inspect it for more metal.
As long as it has normal pushing power it would not say torque convertor is bad but, long travel times will take its toll.
Also check the sending unit and make sure it doesn't have debris around it that might make it short and give you a false reading. It is on top of transmission opposite side of filter.
