The problem is the obviously. it is supposed to be on the negative
I usually throw away the crossover cable, and buy 2 short cables
Here is how it goes The cable from the top post on the solenoid runs straight back to the left battery - ( negative) The left battery + (positive) goes to the frame ground.
The cable on the outside of the starter frame (kind of on the inside) goes to the right battery + (positive) The right battery - (negative) goes to the frame ground.
If you want to use your crossover cable the left is on the + post, and the right crossover is on the - post. BUT you have to have to put the short black one on that you had to ground. Without that you will have 24 volt lights for 5 seconds. That is why I go with the 2 short straps
What you have here is a nightmare of an electrical system. It is a 24 volt starter with a split system 12 volt generator. One half of the 12volt is positive ground and the other half is 12volt negative ground.
If you have starter trouble by an after market kit with a 12 volt starter and an alternator.

Verifiedhey im mitchell and i will see if i can help you. dont mean to butt in but i see u r still having problems. i believe the right connection for this is positive post to positive post to post on solenoid with both batteries grounded to the frame. do u have a gound for each battery? can u not tell how the cables r turned to determine how they were hooked up the start with?hit me back if i can help u any more
