I have had a...

I have had a recurring infection in my right thumb. I had a wooden splinter in it/at the tip near but not under the nail that I tried unsuccessfully to pick out with a safety pin and then this same thumb was nicked by a very old frayed wire cable. I have been on 5 antibiotics, 1 anti fungal med, got a tetanus shot, had an xray and MRI to see if there is still something in the pad (they see nothing), 2 minor surgical procedures on the pad to let the thumb "weep" and take tissue samples to see if I have a bacteria (negative). On the MRI my thumb is completely "white" indicted it is severely inflammed. 247 it feels numb, like I have frostbite or sticking my thumb in an electrical socket and it and the rest of my right hand are always cold. I feel very "foggy" all the time. This has been going on since October last year. My ortho doc is baffled. He wants me to go see an infectious disease doc since I've got no relief from any procedure. Help! I don't know what or where to go next.

Been on 5 different ones (I'm allergic to septra so can't have sulfur ones) since November. None have done anything to alleviate infection/pain

Antifungal med I'm on now, it's doing nothing

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the Doctor should know?

I'm on HBP meds (valsartan/amplodopine), I'm a 50 yr old female, 5'3" approx 120 lbs in good health

Good afternoon. This has been going on since Oct so no constant fever, no discharge from the original wound "splinter and cable" but my ortho has lanced once to allow "weeping" and then cut open to take tissue samples to see if there is a bacterial infection so I have 2 stitches that are healing. This is what it looks like.

Thanks for your help! It's so debilitating and with no solution in sight, very discouraging. I think there is something still in it or the infection is so severe/isolated and centralized in the center of my pad

The picture shows infection like a picture, the MRI also shows inflammation. You should go to a university medical center and see an infectious disease doctor. You may need intravenous antibiotics and cultures. The university medical center has all the consultants and resources for a complex case like yours.
