This is likely to be due to knee osteoarthritis and related loose bodies which are tiny concretions in the joint. When he stands up, the osteophyte comes in the joint and causes locking of the joint.

The other possibility is quadriceps spasm on change of posture.

The treatment is same;

Physical therapy

Deep elctrotherapy

Acupuncture

Mild massage.

Please feel free for your follow up questions.

I would be happy to assist you further, if you need any more information.

Thanks for using Just Answer.

It is his quad muscle locking up not his knee...although he does have some knee issues.
Health Professional: Dr. Arun Phophalia, Doctor (MD) replied 7 months ago

Quadricep muscle has 4 heads in origin (and thus the name, quadri means four) and then it become one muscle and insert with a single tendon. Fibers of these heads can have dyssynergia. And thus when one stands, one of the head may not be synchronized with the other muscle fibers and this causes the locking.

But the treatment remains same that is;

Physical therapy

Deep electrotherapy

Mild massage

Acupuncture.

Physical therapy has many components;

a) Passive and active stretching exercises.

b) Exercises against resistance.

c) Exercises with weight.

d Weight bearing exercises.

These will take away locking.

It is privilege assisting you.

Thank you to the Physician who answered my question today. The answer was far more informative than what I got from the Physicians I saw in person for my problem.

You have been more help than you know. I seriously don't know what my sisters situation would be today if you had not gone above and beyond just answering my questions.

John and StefanieTucson, AZ

I have been dealing with an extremely serious health crisis for over three years, and one your physicians asked me more questions, gave me more answers and encouragement than a dozen different doctors who have been treating me!!
