Customer Question

Got the high dose flu shot 10/14, in less than 1 hour I started feeling bad, numbness going up my neck on both sides up to my ears, numbness along the top of my shoulders and upper arms, flushed face and hives across my cheeks and nose, swelling of glands under my jaw. Phoned a doctor and he told me to take Benadryl. I did and most of the symptoms calmed down. The symptoms keep returning, even today hives and itching along my jaw and neck numbness and tongue has needles and pins. Its been over 2 weeks. How long will this last. Its a bit stressful to me and I live 1 1/2 hours from any help if I need it.

Hello. Dr. Ashori here. Please give me a moment to reply.

Sorry you are feeling this way.

You can take some zyrtec or allegra to alleviate the symptoms.

Such allergic reactions can last anywhere from 1 week up to 3 months.

They generally get milder and milder as time goes on but unfortunately it isn't easy to predict the duration.

however, don't be worried about anything serious, if it was going to be something serious it would have manifested itself as such already.

The shot will leave your system usually in the first week.

But the effects can last a little longer.
