My 14 year old Type 1 Diabetic son isn't feeling well. His blood sugar is 177 which isn't on target but not terrible. He has no fever but says he feels warm. He got overheated in football last night. What should I be doing for him today?
JA: How long have you had a fever? Do you have any respiratory symptoms?
Customer: No fever, no resp symptoms
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: not allergic to anything. wondering if it could be allergies?

In what way is he not feeling well?

I agree with you that'd be blood sugar is a bit high but not that bad ...

Often a rise in blood sugar in a diabetic may correlate with stress to the body such as infection..

Start with him testing and plenty of fluids ...

Does he have nausea ? Sore throat ? Sinus congestion ? Cough ? ( ok I see you note that he has no respiratory symptoms ...just double checking ....) Abdominal pain? Diarrhea ?

I think so far it is matter of looking for clues ...

Let me know what further details that may be possible

I will be happy to get back with you

PS so far I would not think allergies per se...,

Any sneezing? Nose or roof of mouth itching ? Any rash? Any history of allergies or asthma ??

No nausea, pain or coughing. Used cool washcloth on his head, took a cool fever so I am stumped

Ok ---

Well at this point it seems too vague to give you anything specific..

I think have him rest and keep watch ...

If he was coming down with something then it may more declare itself with time ...

As you know a viral infection for example may just start nonspecifically with perhaps malaise and perhaps a bit of aches ...

Watch for possible development in next 24 hours of sore throat/ cough / stomach upset /

Keep watch on the blood sugars ...

Time will be helpful in this case I think ...

Hopefully nothing declares but he just feels better over time ...

There does not seem much at this point to grab a handle on...

Let me know if you have further updates or questions ..

Best regards,
