Large blood clot from penis. What could it be?

Customer Question

My husband just had a large blood clot come out of his penis. Is this normal? He is 40 years of age. This is the first time. It has never happened before. We did have sex this morning.

Blood clot after sexual intercourse might be because of the small injury to the inside of the penis - known as urethra.During aggressive intercourse there could be stretching of the urethra which can cause this problem. Some bleeding occurs and then it clots. If there is no blood in urine it is usually harmless and will settle of its own. If he develops any swelling of the penis he should see a doctor immediately. Otherwise some rest and plenty of water will clear this off.If bleeding persists he should seek medical attention as early as possible.
