I sometimes get a pain in the rectum thatstarts with a low

Customer Question

I sometimes get a pain in the rectum thatstarts with a low pain but can increaseto a pain that stands you on your tip toes. This is not frequent, maybe once or twice a month. I have found that if I urinate, the pain goes away...but it is hard to urinate. Sometimes i have to focus and concentrate until the flow starts. What could this be, is it serious?
JA: How long have you had the pain? What seems to make the pain better or worse?
Customer: It comes infrequently, maybe once a month. Urinating makes the pain go away almost instantly. But the pain makes it hard to urinate.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: No, my PSA is 0.2 and has remained steady at that level for more than 10 years.

The pain usually feels like a cramp in the rectum but goes away with urination.

I understand your concern.

This can be proctalgia or charley horse type spasm of anal or rectal muscles. In this condition spasm can cause sharp pain. This usually last for seconds to minutes.

You should maintain a good hydration.

Warm sitz baths can be helpful.

Also eat fibre rich diet to prevent constipation as it can be contributing factor also.

If your symptoms'll recur frequently then see your doctor again.
