Well hopefully! I am having an issue with my left leg, hip

Customer Question

Well hopefully! I am having an issue with my left leg, hip flexor strain is what I initially thought it was but that was 2 months ago and while it's better, I still have pain upon standing and need to take the first few steps gingerly to make sure I can stand on it. Now it's starting to shoot pain down the side of my thigh and kind of in front. NO sciatica pain. THought I strained these hip muscles doing leg exercises..lunges, squats, holding stretches for 2 minutes as I'm trying to get back in shape.
JA: What seems to make the symptoms worse or better? Any redness or swelling in the leg?
Customer: being idle seems to make it worse and it seems I can walk it off most of the time.
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: I'm overweight and recovering from a right foot avulsion fracture last Thanksgiving, so I'm recovering from that....muscle imbalances and diminished strength due to 6-8 weeks non weight bearing.

Thank you for your question.
I am Dr Saha, I shall try my best to help you.

Do you feel pain in right foot still now?

When did you consult orthopedic doctor last?

Did you consult physiotherapist?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
No pain in right foot. I was in PTand they helped the foot tremendously. Should I go back for this? It started up just as I end PT
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Haven't been to the doc since Match.

It's my left hip.

Thank you for all the information,

As you had avulsion fracture in right foot, there can be strain on the left hip joint.

Hip arthritis can be possible too.

Though you are recovering, still you need a review by an orthopedic doctor again.

I would suggest to make an appointment.

After initial evaluation doctor can decide on further tests.

He may refer to PT again if it is necessary.

Try to reduce weight by watching diet and walking as much as possible.

I hope this information helps.

If there’s anything else I can do, please let me know.

If you are satisfied, please rate my answer as good or excellent.

I've seen a podiatrist not an orthopedic doc. ?
Expert:  Dr. Saha replied 1 year ago.

You should take an opinion from an orthopedic doctor now.

Well, do you have any idea what's causing this? If I just rest for a while an stop stretching it will that help? I've been waiting for this to resolve itself but that doesn't seem to be happening. A good massage maybe?
Expert:  Dr. Saha replied 1 year ago.

Physical examination, X-ray/ MRI will be needed to have the diagnosis.

It can can be strain, arthritis or nerve compression etc.

You should avoid stretching exercise or massage for a while.

You can take rest as much as possible and try anti-inflammatory medicine like Motrin for a few days.
