Customer Question

I had a kidney stone flare up last week and in the course of that pain, and vomiting, I either tore or pulled a muscle in my left rib cage. I saw a doctor yesterday and after thumping around etc, on my back, she determined that it was just the muscle between the ribs and not the kidneys, or any other organs involved. She recommended ibuprofen, heat and rest. This was actually working quite well until yesterday afternoon, when I sneezed. It felt like the muscle actually exploded out of my body. I imagine this is what an actual knife stabbing would feel like. The ibuprofen is working somewhat, but now I have a tickle in my throat and am trying not to cough. Would it be beneficial to wrap my ribs in an ace bandage or something similar? My brother-in-law suggested that wrapping my ribs could constrict my breathing enough to allow me to develop pneumonia.

Wrapping would not help.
This will prevent expansion of chest.
You can give support to ribs with hand while coughing, sneezing.
As you have discomfort in the throat, I would suggest to have an examination by doctor again.
There can be an infection in the throat.
A throat swab can be taken for test.

Meanwhile, please continue ibuprofen.
I hope this information helps.
