I am Dr. Arun and will be helping you today.

I am sorry that your question was unanswered for long.

The swelling is due to blood and serum accumulating at the site of injury on finger. This may remain for around a week. The swelling increases because of the constricting effect of the ring. It allows the arterial blood to come but venous blood cannot go. So there is further increase in the swelling. You need to go to either the emergency room or urgent care, to get the ring removed. Otherwise swelling may increase further. Apart from ice compresses following would help in decreasing the swelling;

1) Keep the hand elevated. Do not hang it down.

2) Ibuprofen.

3) Any analgesic spray.

Please feel free for your follow up questions.

I would be happy to assist you further, if you need any more information.
