I am Dr. Arun and will be helping you today.
An hernia would be the first possibility for the mass. But there can be many other reasons for left upper quadrant painless abdominal mass like;
1) Aortic aneurysm
(Both hernia and aneurysm are soft to touch. An hernia would increase slightly on coughing and sneezing. The aneurysm may slightly decrease in size on applying pressure. You may feel pulse too on it).
2) Mass related to stomach, pancreas, liver, kidney, spleen (cysts are soft).
An ultrasound and a CT scan should be done to ascertain the diagnosis.
