Left sided tonsil pain with severe left ear pain,

Customer Question

Left sided tonsil pain with severe left ear pain, occasionally coughing up white flem, extreme pain when swallowing, currently on amoxycillin 500mg 3x a day, however 3/4 through course no improvement.. Fever, sweating.. Have been diagnosed with mono 5years ago.. Clear nasal passages.. What do you think? Back to doctor for more extreme antibiotics? I wasn't too impressed with their care earlier this week..

Thank you for your question.
I am Dr Saha, I shall try my best to help you.
It is unlikely to be due to mono.
It can be upper respiratory infection.
There can be associated middle ear infection.
As amoxicillin is not still effective, you need to take some tests.
You can have a throat swab culture, CBC.

Throat swab would find which antibiotic will be most effective.
I hope this information helps.
