My wife had a positive urine test for Urinary Tract

Customer Question

My wife had a positive urine test for Urinary Tract Infection, medicated, well, recurrence within a week and another positive urine test for UTI with a culture. Before the culture results arrived she suffered from low sodium (117) and delirium. Sodium was stabilized and delirium went away. Blood culture came back negative for presence of bacteria. She still feels generally bad and somewhat weak. She is 55. any thoughts?

Hi there,

This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.

I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Has she been on right antibiotic after culture?

Complete resolution of infection is important.

Low sodium can be due to the antibiotic side effect or from the infection related.

Current weakness can be due to the recent infection commonly.

Also kidney failure can be possible.

That should be checked.

Kidney ultrasound is important.

Other possibilities include diabetes which can cause frequent resistant infections.

Hypothyroidism is another possibility.

Iron deficiency also should be ruled out.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.
